How to Play Draw Battle (Team Drawing Online)
Two or more teams sketch the same word at once, guess in the room, and trailing teams can spend points to catch up.
How to play Draw Battle: put at least two teams of two into a browser room, draw the same secret word at the same time, and let teammates type guesses on their own screens. Faster correct guesses score more. A trailing team can spend points to reveal a letter or freeze another team’s canvas for a few seconds.
It is a team drawing game, not a pass-the-marker circle. Play it at draw-battle.partyygames.com. The rest of the free lineup is on Partyy Games.
What you need before the first round
You need 4 to 16 players, split so every active team has at least 2 people. Two teams is the minimum. Four team colors exist (red, blue, gold, green), so a big call can run more than a duel.
You also need:
- A phone, tablet, or computer per player
- One person willing to draw on each team each round
- A voice call if you want reactions—Zoom, Meet, Discord, or Teams
- An agreement not to say the word out loud
Drawers should use a finger or stylus when they can. Guessers only need a keyboard.
Round flow
- Create a room and share the code. Paste the call link into the header if you want one join button.
- Assign teams in the lobby. Do not start with someone unteamed.
- Set round count and round length if the defaults feel long. A common setup is about 15 rounds at 60 seconds; shorter clocks exist for faster groups.
- A drawer on each team gets the same word and sketches on a live canvas.
- Teammates type guesses in the game. Correct guesses score; faster is better.
- Between or during pressure moments, a trailing team may buy a letter reveal or a freeze (a few seconds where a rival canvas locks) if they have the points.
- Repeat until the round count ends. Highest team score wins.
Everyone’s canvas updates in their own browser. You do not cast one laptop to the call.
Draw Battle vs one shared canvas
| Draw Battle | Sketch (same lineup) | Typical Drawful / Skribbl night | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who draws | One drawer per team, same prompt | One drawer for the room | Usually one canvas at a time |
| Minimum | 4 players, 2 teams of 2 | 2 players | Depends on the app |
| Catch-up | Letter reveal and freeze | Host hints | Usually none |
| Remote video | Call for voice only | Call for voice only | Often a screen share |
Use Sketch when you have a trio or a couple and cannot fill two teams. Use Draw Battle when you want both sides working at once.
Honest caveat: Draw Battle will not clone Drawful’s exact prompt deck, fake-title voting, or TV presentation. If that specific Jackbox game is the requirement, a party pack still does that job. For a free simultaneous team canvas, this is the room to open. Broader Jackbox swaps live in the free Jackbox alternatives guide—this page is the Draw Battle rule set.
Common ways the round breaks
- Saying the answer on Zoom. The other team hears it and the canvas stops mattering.
- A team of one. They cannot start as a full team. Move a player or switch to Sketch.
- Screen sharing a drawer’s phone. You leak the word list and the UI. Share the room link instead.
- Spending the freeze immediately. Keep the comeback tool until a team is actually behind.
For 12–16 players, keep teams even and read the large groups guide so you do not also try to run a turn-based word game in the same giant room.

Seat teams before you hit start
You need at least two teams, and each playing team needs at least two people. A 5-person call should be 3 and 2, not five solo drawers. Fix teams in the lobby, not mid-round.
Put drawers on a touch screen when you can
Phones and tablets make faster sketches than a trackpad. Guessers can stay on laptops. The drawer should not also be the only person reading the Zoom chat.
Guess in the game, talk on the call
Typed guesses are what score. Saying the word on an open mic can spoil the other team’s canvas. Mute guess-shouting or keep it inside your team’s side conversation.
Save powerups for a real deficit
Trailing teams can spend points to reveal a letter or freeze another canvas. Spending them on round one usually wastes the comeback tool you want in the final stretch.
Shorten the clock for veterans
Default rounds are a minute. If every team solves in ten seconds, drop the round length in the lobby next match. New groups should stay at the longer settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you play Draw Battle?
Split into teams of at least two. Each round, teams draw the same secret word at the same time while teammates type guesses. Faster solves score more. Trailing teams can spend points on a letter reveal or a short canvas freeze. Play runs in the browser with a room code.
How many players do you need for Draw Battle?
You need at least 4 players: two teams of two. The room allows up to 16. A comfortable first game is 4–8 people so each team has a drawer and one or two guessers.
Is Draw Battle the same as Skribbl or Drawful?
It is a drawing party game, but the shape is different. Skribbl and Drawful usually pass one canvas around. Draw Battle has teams drawing the same prompt simultaneously, with catch-up powers for the team that is behind.
Can one person play Draw Battle alone?
No. A team needs two players, and a match needs two teams. For a single drawer and a guessing room, use Sketch instead. For two people with no teams, use Vibe or Guess My Number.
Do guessers see the word?
Drawers see the word. Teammates guess by typing. The other team should not hear the answer on the call. Letter reveals, if a trailing team buys one, show a letter without handing over the full word.
Is Draw Battle free?
Yes. Create a room at draw-battle.partyygames.com. No download or account. Optional: paste your video-call link into the room header so everyone has the same join button.
